At the start of her senior year in high school, Sara wants
two things: to get into a top college and to find true love.Tobey also wants
two things for his senior year: to win Battle of the Bands and to make Sara
fall in love with him. However, a popular jock named Dave moves in on Sara
first. But Tobey’s quirky wit and big blue eyes are hard for Sara to ignore.
Plus, he gets the little things that matter to her. Can a slacker rock-star
wannabe win the heart of a pretty class brain like Sara? Hilariously and
movingly told through Tobey and Sara’s authentic voices, Susane Colasanti’s
debut novel sizzles in its portrayal of two young people searching for The One.

When It
Happens was my first read by Susane Colasanti. I read it almost two
years ago, and it was the book that had me fallen in love with the authors
work. I loved this book so much. It’s such a sweet, fun, light contemporary. This
kind of book is the reason why I love contemporaries.
Tobey and Sarah have both different resolutions for the new
school year. Sarah’s is to get accepted to her first choice college, while
Tobey’s is to make Sarah fall in love with him. Sarah and Tobey might seem
different when you look at them on the outside, but they are so much alike.
They both love music and they both want to find their “something real”.
I love both characters equally. I really enjoyed reading
about Sarah’s nerdy side as much as I liked reading about Tobey’s band/bad boy
side. They are truly a cute couple. I’m not going to lie, the book has a lot, I
mean a lot of cliché stuff on it, but I didn’t mind it. And I’ve no doubt you
won’t too.
I love that it’s two POV. We get to see what each character
is thinking and feeling. The music aspect of the book was also great. I love
reading about anything that involve music, and in this book, it made the book
more entertaining and fun to read.
Overall, When It
Happens is a satisfying read. This book, I have to admit, is by far my favorite Susane
Colasanti’s book. I recommend this book for everyone who wants a
light, fun summer read. Also, I suggest you go check out her other books as
well. I’ve read all of them and I enjoyed every single one of them.
