Follow Friday! (4)

Follow my blog Friday is hosted at Parajunkee and AlisonCanRead. It’s a weekly meme where bloggers meet and follow one another.

This week’s question:
What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?
Great question! I have a lot of books that hasn’t been turned into a movie. I tried to shorten the list and here they are:
*TheBook Thief by Markus Zusak
*Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles
*Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
*Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
*SomeGirls Are by Courtney Summers
Since its Banned Book Week, I chose:
*The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
For the characters part...I really don't care who cast it, as long as they are good.

Another amazing book by Sarah Dessen. Sarah Dessen is an amazing author; I have read and enjoyed almost all of her books. I had really high expectations for this book and I was not disappointed. I loved everything about What Happen to Goodbye. I’m so glad to have read it. It was really entertaining and a pleasant read. This book is about a girl, learning about who she really is and her journey to finding herself. I love all the characters in this book, especially Deb and, of course, Dave.  I loved the slowly evolving love between McClean and Dave. This book will make you sad and happy. What Happen to Goodbye was not my favorite book by Sarah Dessen but definitely a great one.

Dessen writes stories that are so real, that deal with the hardships of real life. I liked that this one was more about finding yourself rather than a love story like her other ones. (But there is a bit of that, too.) She does such a good job with character building. However, I just felt like the ending was a little rushed … still it was a great read. I highly recommend it because this is not your typical YA romance. (All of Sara Dessen’s books I’ve read aren’t your typical YA romance.) I really think that you would love this and all her other books.

Waiting on Wednesday (3)

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly post by Jill at Breaking the Spine to spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week I'm waiting on...

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Release Date: November 15th, 2011

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

Top 5 Favorite Books

Instead of doing book review I thought I tell you guys about my top five favorite books. I have a lot of favorite books so today I will be sharing part one of my favorite books I recommend all of these books for everyone.

The Truth about Forever, This Lullaby and Just Listen by Sarah Dessen – I adore Sarah Dessen. It was hard choosing my top 5 favorite books but it was even harder choosing from Sarah Dessen books. So, here are three books of hers I loved; great books about family struggles, friendship and love.

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini – a beautiful novel. I can’t express how much I love this book and there aren’t adjectives that would describe this book. So, the only thing I would say is read it, if you haven’t. You won’t be disappointed.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak – this book is amazing; I’d be reading it again and again.  The Book Thief is one of those rare books that will make you to stop and think about the world, life and everything. And who wouldn’t want to read a book narrated by Death?

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte – this book is my favorite classic book ever. I love every page of the book and I highly recommend this book for any reader.
The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks – as you know in addition to YA, I read a lot of adult books. Nicholas Sparks knows how to write love story that will touch your heart. The Rescue will make you laugh and sob at the same time. It’s a must read.

This post will be continued next week with my next top 5 favorites!  Stay tuned!

Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Source: Library

Publisher: Poppy
Release Date: September 5, 2011
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 273

Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it's a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy's car has been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend's attention.
Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players' girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won't get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don't count on is a new sort of rivalry: an impossible girls-against-boys showdown that hinges on who will cave to their libidos first. And Lissa never sees her own sexual tension with the leader of the boys, Cash Sterling, coming.

Who doesn’t love to read about battle of sexes?
I loved Kody’s debut novel The DUFF. So I waited anxiously for her second book to come out and I was so happy when I got my hands on a copy.

SHUT OUT is a wonderful story told in the fresh voice of Lissa. I absolutely loved the take on Battle of Sexes.  I loved the main character Lissa: she’s fantastic, likeable, neurotic and bossy.  I really enjoyed reading this book. I also liked Cash (on a side note: I really like the name.)  I liked the fact that Kody brought up guys choosing football--or in this book rivalry--over their girlfriends. It’s realistic! It happens in real life--husbands choosing sport over their wives, boyfriends choosing sports over their girlfriends.

The one thing that really irked me about Lissa was why she even bothered with Randy at all--he was a complete jerk. The plot of this book might be the same as The Duff but it has a different concept. It was my second time reading about battle of sexes and I’ve learned good things so far.

While reading this book, I can’t help comparing the main character of The Duff, Bianca, and Lissa. It was really interesting to me because it felt like two different authors wrote those two characters, in my opinion. That’s how different the characters are. I liked the ending but I wanted the books to have more depth about battle of sexes, and not just Lissa not wanting Cash to win because of
her emotional feelings for him.

Overall, Kody did an amazing job and I would be reading more of her work. Plus, the cover is just pretty. I recommend this book for everyone.

Perfect Chemistry Series by Simon Elkeles

I’ll be reviewing the whole series in here. It does have spoilers, so DON’T READ this if you have not read the series.

Perfect Chemistry
Let me start by saying, Perfect Chemistry was my first Simon Elkeles book but it wasn’t my last. The whole book is just a wonderful read that shows you how much there is to learn about the hardship of life. I loved the main characters Alex and Brittany: both Alex and Brittany have responsibilities in their household to keep everything together. The other character I really loved was Paco; he sacrificed himself for the sake of Alex...but especially for the sake of Alex and Brittney's relationship. The storyline and the characters are great and witty. I don’t want to choose between the series, but I can’t help say that Perfect Chemistry is my favorite from the three books. Definitely a great read!

Rules of Attraction: It certainly lives up to the bar that Perfect Chemistry set. I loved that this story is centered on Carlos and Kiara, but it also includes Alex and Brittany. Rules of Attraction will keep you engrossed until the last page.  I found it very interesting how Elkeles was able to create different characters that deal with the same problems as Perfect Chemistry but still make readers want more. Kiara and Carlos are both very likeable characters. Also, I really liked Tuck. Rules of Attraction is a funny and quick book you don’t want to miss.

Chain Reaction
The plot is slightly similar to the other two books, but has a love/hate relationship that made it interesting. I also liked how each book is set about a few years after the previous one, and involves the original main characters, so we can see how the couples' relationships have progressed. I would love it if Simone Elkeles would write more books to this series about the sons /daughters of the three Fuentes boys.

Overall, there are parts that are predictable but this is still an incredible series! I love the cocky/sweet attitude of the Fuentes’s brothers. There are storylines that never get old and this is one of them. I’m sad it’s over but the Fuentes’s brothers are unforgettable!

Follow Friday! (2)

Follow my blog Friday is hosted at Parajunkee and AlisonCanRead. It’s a weekly meme where bloggers meet and follow one another.

This week’s question:

It's that pesky magic book fairy again! She has another wish: What imaginary book world would you like to make a reality?

It’s tough question since I don’t usually read imaginary book worlds. Besides, almost all imaginary worlds are not the place you want to live in, in my opinion. However, if I have to pick, I would go with one of this two worlds: I Am Number Four and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They are scary but exciting worlds I want to make a reality.

Leave a link so I can follow you back!

Nevermore by Kelly Creagh

Source: Purchased
Publisher: Atheneum Books for Young Readers; Reprint edition
Release Date: August 31, 2010
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 576

Cheerleader Isobel Lanley is horrified when she is paired with Varen Nethers for an English project, which is due—so unfair—on the day of the rival game. Cold and aloof, sardonic and sharp-tongued, Varen makes it clear he’d rather not have anything to do with her either. But when Isobel discovers strange writing in his journal, she can’t help but give this enigmatic boy with the piercing eyes another look.

Soon, Isobel finds herself making excuses to be with Varen. Steadily pulled away from her friends and her possessive boyfriend, Isobel ventures deeper and deeper into the dream world Varen has created through the pages of his notebook, a realm where the terrifying stories of Edgar Allan Poe come to life.

As her world begins to unravel around her, Isobel discovers that dreams, like words, hold more power than she ever imagined, and that the most frightening realities are those of the mind. Now she must find a way to reach Varen before he is consumed by the shadows of his own nightmares.

 His life depends on it.

Nevermore! Nevermore! Nevermore! What can I say? Words can’t describe how much I love this book. I know most of you might think this is a typical cheerleader story, because that’s what I thought when I first heard about it but I have never been glad to be proven wrong. This book was absolutely amazing from the beginning to end. Creagh’s debut novel did NOT disappoint.

I couldn't put it down; I hideaway in my room till the last page. This book is so well written you feel like you are one of the characters. Nevermore is a memorable and very descriptive story. I loved every page. This book, so far, is one of my top 10 favorite books of all the time. Edgar Poe’s concept is unique and refreshing to read about it, too. I loved Varen and Isobel; they were amazing main characters for this book. If you like reading mystery or thriller books, this is the book for you. Though almost any teenagers will love it.

The entire book...I mean everything, the plot, the pace, the characters and the book cover, you name it, has won my heart. If you haven't read this book yet, you’re missing out on a great story/adventure--and that is an understatement. I can't wait for the next book, and I’ll definitely start reading it the minute I get my hands on it.
