Stacking the Shelves (1)

It’s been a while since I’ve done a book haul, and it’s because I didn’t get any books in the month of July. However, I got quiet a few books in the last two weeks, so I’ve decided to do one this week. Without further ado, here are the books I got.

For Review:

Burn For Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian - I've already read this one and LOVED it!
Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake - I've the first book on my shelf, but I've not read it yet. I'm planning to read both books straight through
Saving June by Hannah Harrington - I loved Hannah's new upcoming book Speechless, so I'm really excited to read her debut novel.

Purchased:

Daughter of Smoke and Bones by Laini Taylor - I've been wanting to read this book, and i'm planning to read it before the second book comes out.
Seraphina by Rachel Hartman - My sister bought this book, and i don't even know what's it about.
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson - I adored Morgan's debut novel, Amy and Roger's Epic Detour. Can't wait to read this one! I have high hopes.
Perfect Escape by Jennifer Brown - This one has been getting great reviews, so i'm looking forward to checking it out.
A Million Suns by Beth Revis - i loved the first book, Across the Universe. I'm excited to continue with this series.
The Host by Stephenie Meyer - I bought this book just because i want to read it before the movie comes out in 2013.

That's all for me. Now tell me what you got in your mailbox!

Love and Leftovers by Sarah Tregay

Source: Library
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books
Release Date: December 27, 2011
Format: Hardcover
Page: 451

My wish
is to fall
cranium over Converse
in dizzy, daydream-worthy
love.

(If only it were that easy.)

When her parents split, Marcie is dragged from Idaho to a family summerhouse in New Hampshire. She leaves behind her friends, a group of freaks and geeks called the Leftovers, including her emo-rocker boyfriend, and her father. By the time Labor Day rolls around, Marcie suspects this "vacation" has become permanent. She starts at a new school where a cute boy brings her breakfast and a new romance heats up.

But understanding love, especially when you've watched your parents' affections end, is elusive. What does it feel like, really? Can you even know it until you've lost it?

***

I love reading books written in verses, so when I found out that Love and Leftovers is written in verse, I was eager to get my hands on a copy. And it didn’t disappoint. Love and Leftovers was a short, fun, and entertaining summer read. I read it in less than a day.

Our main character, Marcie, is just simply adorable. I loved everything about her. She’s funny and thoughtful. I really liked Marcie’s voice in this book. It was fun going through the journey with her. What I loved most about this book is the ending. I didn't expect it to end like the way it ended, which I really enjoyed. I don’t like predictable ending in books.

Overall, I enjoyed this book, and recommend it to every contemporary fan. Sarah Tregay’s debut is fantastic. She did an amazing job with the main character and her voice. I truly enjoyed this fun read, and I’m looking forward to checking out Sarah’s future work.

July Wrap-Up

July was not a good month for me. I was in a reading slump for half of the month, and didn’t read much. I only read 6 books, but I’m really happy to say I loved every single one of the books I read, which makes up for my reading slump. Anyway, here are the six books I read in July.

This Is So Not Happening by Kieran Scott
Love and Leftovers by Sarah Tregay
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

Speechless by Hannah Harrington
My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpartrick
A Fool’s Gold Christmas by Susan Mallery

What are did you read in July?

Waiting on Wednesday (30)

Meme hosted by Breaking the Spine
This week I’m waiting on …

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
Scholastic Press
September 18, 2012

“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.

Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.

His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.

But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.

White Lines by Jennifer Banash
Putnam Juvenile
April 04, 2013

Seventeen-year-old Cat is living every teenager’s dream—she has her own apartment on New York’s Lower East Side and at night she’s club kid royalty, guarding the velvet rope at some of the hottest clubs in the city. The night with its crazy, frenetic, high-inducing energy—the pulsing beat of the music, the radiant, joyful people and those seductive white lines that can ease all pain—is when Cat truly lives. But her daytime, when her real life occurs, is more nightmare than dream.

The sounds of the city grate against Cat’s nerves, she shrinks away from human touch, and can barely think the words “I love you” even when she feels them. Having spent years suffering her mother’s emotional and physical abuse, and abandoned by her father who’s found happiness in another woman, Cat is terrified and alone—unable to connect to anyone or anything. But then someone comes along who makes her want to stop escaping her life and actually live it, only she’ll need to summon the courage to confront her demons and take control of a life already spinning dangerously out of control.

What are you waiting on?

Warning: this review might contain spoilers for those of you who have not read the first two books in this trilogy.

This Is So Not Happening is the third and finale book in the He’s So/She’s So trilogy. I read the first two books two years ago, when the second book was coming out, and I had to wait two years for this book to come out, which was a torture.

I have a love/hate relationship with these books. I really enjoyed the first book, but wasn’t a fan of the second book, so it was down to the third book to decide how I really feel about this trilogy. And I’m happy to say that the third book reminded me the reason why I loved this series from the start.

This Is So Not Happening picked up where the second book left off. I’m really satisfied with how things ended in this trilogy. I’m sad, but satisfied. I love how the characters become more mature in this book than they were in the first two books. It made it easier to feel for them, and relate to them. Also, the romance feels more mature and real too.

The main thing I love about these books is the drama. I love it. I don’t know how Kieran Scott does it. It’s unbelievable. The drama in this book/ this trilogy will keep you on the edge of your seat. It’s like watching Gossip Girl.

Overall, I love this trilogy and I do recommend it for people to check it out. In my opinion, this trilogy doesn’t get the attention it should get. It’s a very enjoyable, quick, easy summer read.
P.S. Just make sure you have all three books ready when you start to read this trilogy. Kieran Scott’s cliffhangers are like no others.
